ESAB is now looking for a Senior Data Scientist to join our newly established AI R&D team — a unique opportunity to be part of something from the very beginning. You’ll have the opportunity to help build the team from the ground up, shape our analytical capabilities, and be a key player in transforming how a global leader leverages data to drive innovation. Are you ready to be part of this journey? Apply now!
About ESAB
ESAB is a global leader in welding, cutting and gas technologies, with over 100 years of experience in innovation and technical development. Founded in 1904 in Gothenburg, the company now operates in more than 150 countries. ESAB offers a wide range of products and solutions for manual and automated welding, filler materials, industrial cutting equipment and gas appliances. With a strong presence all over the world — ESAB combines global reach with local expertise, maintaining a clear focus on quality, safety, and sustainability.
About The Role
We are looking for a Senior Data Scientist who shares our passion for creating something new and has the courage to explore uncharted territories. Here at ESAB, you’ll work at the intersection of statistics, programming, and business strategy, using your expertise to unlock the value hidden in our data across product development, operations, finance, and services.
You will play a crucial role in building AI-driven, agentic systems that can reason, act, and interact autonomously across business, sales, and financial environments — helping ESAB transform how it makes decisions and delivers value to customers. Your work will not stop at experimentation: we expect that your AI solutions will be tested, deployed, and validated in real-world settings.
You’ll report to the AI R&D Leader and work closely with solution architects, ML engineers, process automation experts, and business stakeholders
across the organization.
Your Responsibilities May Include
- Leverage data to solve complex problems, extract meaningful insights, and inform decision-making processes across ESAB’s global operations.
- Gather, clean, and process diverse datasets from manufacturing, IoT sensors, customer interactions, and business systems.
- Develop and train algorithms using machine learning, data mining, and predictive modeling to analyze large datasets.
- Work with classification models, time-series analysis, and statistical methods to optimize manufacturing processes, predict equipment failures, and identify market trends.
- Design and deploy agentic AI models that automate or augment workflows in business, sales, and finance domains, with measurable outcomes and traceable decision logic.
- Develop frameworks for autonomous task orchestration, LLM-based agents, and data-driven reasoning pipelines that interact with business systems (e.g., CRM, ERP, or financial forecasting tools).
- Validate deployed AI agents through controlled pilots, A/B testing, and ROI-driven performance metrics, ensuring scalability and business alignment.
- Present findings in a way that is understandable and actionable for stakeholders — you can tell compelling stories with data.
- Lead workshops with business teams to identify high-value analytical opportunities and translate business needs into structured data science problems with clear ROI.
- Help both ESAB and our partners to optimize processes, develop data-driven strategies for growth, and drive innovation through insights.
- Act as an internal ambassador for data science, promoting best practices and raising awareness of what’s possible with advanced analytics.
We Believe That You
- Have at least 7 years of experience as a Data Scientist, preferably with experience working in manufacturing, industrial, or technology-driven environments.
- Hold a university degree in a highly technical and quantitative field (e.g., Mathematics, Physics, Computer Science, Data Engineering, Statistics, or Economics).
- Have proven experience in developing classification models and predictive analytics using machine learning techniques.
- Have hands-on experience in developing, deploying, and testing agentic AI systems in business, sales, or financial domains — where models autonomously reason, plan, and execute actions.
- Have practical experience with LLM-based architectures, tool-using agents, or multi-agent frameworks (e.g., LangChain, CrewAI, AutoGen, or similar).
- Understand the challenges of model evaluation, feedback loops, and continuous improvement in production AI systems.
- Are proficient with Python, SQL, and data science frameworks, along with a solid understanding of cloud platforms and version control (Git).
You have a strong grasp of the theoretical foundations behind both classical and modern machine learning models and algorithms, including generalized linear models, random forests, ensemble methods, and deep neural networks. Your written and verbal communication skills are excellent, allowing you to clearly explain complex analytical concepts to both technical and non-technical audiences. You are highly skilled in communication, organization, and teamwork, and you combine these abilities with solid business acumen. You are comfortable working with data throughout its entire lifecycle—from collection and preparation to analysis, modeling, deployment, and visualization. Thriving in dynamic and fast-paced environments, you enjoy the freedom to think creatively and work on a large scale. With a proactive and self-driven mindset, you take initiative, work independently, and are committed to contributing to the company’s success and growth. Additionally, you possess an entrepreneurial spirit and enjoy being part of building something from the ground up.
